1932 Martin 0-17 Pre War Vintage Acoustic Guitar

This is a fine example of a vintage pre-war martin that not only has all the mojo and vibe of an 88-year-old guitar but plays and sounds incredible. Super light and very resonate this small body all Mahogany body guitar sounds so much bigger than you would expect from a guitar this size.

This is a super rare example and is one of the first 14 fret guitars to be made by Martin along with the first OM models and although the 0-17 did not get officially launched until 1934 there was a batch of guitars made starting in 1932 & 1933 and this guitar is one of the first 50 (0-17s) to be made which was verified by Martin Guitars, and out of those 50 guitars, there was an even smaller number that had factory shaded tops. In talking with Martin even though there were no production notes saying that any of this first batch had shaded tops there is only a handful of guitars that have been found to have had a shaded top, one of those guitars is Martins own Museum piece that they still have and they have confirmed that this guitar is also a factory shaded top making it even rarer.

To top this all off these first batch of guitars had one of the most sort after tonewoods with Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge.

Fans of the 1930's Martins always rave about the dynamic range and volume of that particular pre-war era and after hearing this guitar I have to agree.

The guitar is completely original apart from the replacement ivory saddle (original is included in the case), end strap pins, and a hard case which in itself is over 30+ years old as the guitars originally came with a cardboard case which didn't last long.

The guitar has at some time in its life had a trapeze tailpiece added with the strings then passing directly over the top of the bridge where small slots were made to allow the strings to pass through. With pretty much any guitar of this age they will require a neck reset at some point but instead of doing this people would opt for simply adding a trapeze tailpiece to lower the action and playability instead of doing the proper neck reset.

This guitar was reverted back to its original state over 30 years ago in the USA possibly by Fret n Fiddle who has been a Martin dealer & repairer for many many years. The tailpiece was removed, the saddle put back in and slots filled along with a small crack on the top and a larger hole filled on the butt end as pictured and a neck reset professionally done bringing this guitar back to its original set up and superb playability.

The guitar also has the original bar frets and there is no fret buzz even high up the neck with harmonics ringing out clearly.
